Loving the Bahamas March 14-16

So first, about our trip to Pumpkin Key to anchor out for the night before the crossing.  It was a beautiful day.  Off of Key Largo on our way:
Remember that air intake hose for the generator from the last post?  Well long story short the generator quit about halfway to the anchorage.  Code 3, see manual.  Manual directs to get to secondary code...code 12, low voltage.  Turn off AC circuit breaker, start and check voltage.  Gauge reads low and engine quits again.  Restarted and looking around while it is running and notice the air hose is partially collapsed. That is likely the issue not allowing the genny to run at rated RPM, thus low voltage.  OK, now what.  Oh, DeVere and Carol will be about 6-7 miles from our anchorage at the Ocean Reef Club marina.  If he can get some hose, I can run over in the dinghy and pick it up.  He found some hose so that is what we did.  So I start...

3-1/2 hours later (I had to take apart about half of the sound isolation box to access the hose) I get it fixed.  Partially with old hose and partially with new as the new hose would not snake through a small hole between the diesel engine and generator element. Thank goodness for Rescue tape to make a splice. Restart and voltage comes up to normal.....but now I notice a water leak.
Replaced impeller cover near leak and cleaned connections, then tightened all hose clamps.  Leak fixed.
Generator ran all night long and seems OK now....we hope.
Readying to leave Pumpkin Key at first light on March 15.

A beautiful crossing with Putz’n Around and Job Site.
Putz"n Around following us out of the channel at Angelfish.

And a huge container ship even called and changed course to pass behind us after Scott contacted him earlier.  Our AIS is again running intermittently so we were not to be seen or could we see him.  It did start working about 5 miles from Alice Town though.  I have had it looked at three times now and every time they say it is fine…we’ll keep trying I guess.

Water is deep here!

Came in to Alice Town, Bimini Blue Water Resort.  The water is so clear!!  There were sting ray and a shark swimming around the slip!  Sorry, no pics.

Walked over to customs and immigration to pay our cruising fee and check in.  An interesting process to say the least.   Good to go for two months now!
A local stopped by and sold us a dozen lobster tails.  Wow!  We each had two for dinner and the rest are in the freezer for another day!
The local Weslyan church...started in the 1800s

On Wednesday, went exploring by dinghy.  Stopped at Resorts International casino for lunch.  Brand new and largely empty, including the beautiful marina there.  A quick check of prices tells the  tale. $4.75 a foot a night, plus $20 resort fee, plus electric, plus water.  Only 6-8 boats there....
Will leave for Great Harbor Cay Marina in the Berry Islands on Thursday first  light.  Not sure when we will be able to post again but will try to keep up the cadence of every 7-10 days.   Thanks for following us.

You are becoming quite the boat mechanic. Enjoy your time there. If you would get a drone you could give us some really nice views.
